me q’ólthet

Illustration for 'me q'ólthet' - 'to come back, to return'

Me q’ólthet means ‘to return’ or ‘to come back’.

Pronunciation

Sounds like muh KALL-thutt except instead of a K the you say the Halq’emeylem q sound, which you make touching further back, to your uvula.

This q is also ‘popped’ (ejective), by combining it with a catch in the throat (glottal stop).

Audio: Elizabeth Herrling

Note

Me is a ‘helper’ verb, related to the meaning ‘to come’. You don’t have to include the me, but Elders usually do with this (and other) verbs where the motion is towards the place of speaking.
