cheláqelhelh

Illustraton for 'cheláqelhelh' - 'yesterday'

Cheláqelhelh means ‘yesterday’. You can also use a slightly shorter form, with the same meaning, like this: cheláqelh.

Pronunciation

Sounds like chuh-LAK-uh-lill, except that:

  • instead of a K you say the Halq’eméylem q sound (made further back in the mouth, touching your uvula)
  • Instead of regular l, the l‘s in the last sillable are the Halq’eméylem ‘hissy-l‘ (lh). You make lh like a regular l, but with more friction, and no vibration in the throat
