Hóyòwèlh means ‘goodbye‘. You say this to the person whó is staying when you are leaving. (When the other person is leaving, and you are staying, then you use another word: lámòwèlh.)
Pronunciation
Hóyòwèlh sounds like HOY-ah-WISH‘, except that instead of an SH at the end you say the Halq’emeylem ‘hissy-l’ sound (lh). This is like a regular l, but with more friction and no vibration in the throat. Note that the pitch is somewhat higher on the first syllable than on the two (this is what the accents on the vowels mark here).
