Kéchel is the Halq’eméylem word for ‘kitchen’ …


Pronunciation

Kéchel is borrowed and adapted from English kitchen, and so it is easy to say: just say KIT-chill.

 

Note:  the n changes to an l, because most Halq’eméylem words do not contain the sound n (though n appears in some place names and ceremonial terms).
