Xwe’í means ‘to arrive‘ or ‘to come here’.
Pronunciation
Sounds like shwuh-EE, except instead of a sh the first sound is the Halq’eméylem soft-x sound (x). To make the soft-x, you touch your tongue gently to the roof of your mouth.
Audio: Elizabeth Herrling, Elizabeth Phillips
Notes
- Elders often add the helper verb me (pronounced like muh) before directional verbs, so it is very common to say me xwe’í. You use me when the direction is towards here.
- Xwe’í comes from xwe – to become plus i – here.
