Tl’álx means ‘to attach it‘ or ‘to stick it on’
Pronunciation
Tl’álx sounds like TLALSH, except that:
- The first t is ‘popped’ (‘ejective), which you make by combining the t sound with a glottal stop (catch in the throat). Note that tl’ is actually pronounced t’l.
- The final sound is not SH, but rather the Halq’emeylem soft-x sound. You make this sound by creating friction by gently touching the roof of your mouth.

-ing form
Tl’álx has a special ‘-ing‘ (‘progressive’) form, like this: tl’átl’elx – attaching, sticking on (audio here)
Elders make this type of ‘-ing‘ form by partly doubling (‘reduplicating’) the first part of the word.
Related words
Tl’álx comes from the same root as stl’átl’ – attached, stuck on.
