qeyálh

Illustration for 'before'

Qeyálh means ‘before’.

Pronunciation

Qeyálh sounds like kay-ATH, except that:

  • Instead of a k, the first sound is the Halq’eméylem q. You make this by touching the back of your tongue to your uvula.
  • The last sound is not a th, but the Halq’eméylem hissy-l (lh). You make this like a regular l, but with more friction and no vibration in the throat.
