Schewót means ‘smart’, ‘skilled’, or ‘good at’.
Pronunciation
Schewót sounds like schuh-WATT
Audio: Elizabeth Phillips
Variant form
You will also sometimes hear this variant form: schechewót (audio here).
Schechewót is the ‘dimunitive’ (‘little’) version of schewót, which you make by partly doubling (‘reduplicating’) the first part of the word.
Literally schechewót means ‘smarty‘, or ‘little smart one‘. Some Elders use schechewót to mean pretty much the same thing as schewót, perhaps with a bit of a sense of endearment.
